The committee has met with representatives from our search firm, Leaders International, and shortlisted the candidates from 35 to six. The next step for the selected candidates is lengthy, telephone interviews with Leaders International. Following the conclusion of those interviews, the selection committee will meet with Leaders International on Oct. 3, 2018 to determine which of the six candidates will be invited for face-to-face interviews. Another update will be shared after that meeting.

In addition, and in keeping with the guidelines established by MHC’s Board of Governors at the outset of our presidential search, we would like to share a change in representation on the selection committee which is now comprised of:

  • Graham Kelly, Chair, MHC Board of Governors
  • Davin Carter, MHC Board of Governors (public member)
  • Mohammed Idriss, MHC Board of Governors (public member)
  • Jade Kent, MHC Board of Governors (non-academic member)
  • Beth Lewis, President, Students’ Association
  • Elizabeth Pennefather-O’Brien, Department Chair, Division of Science & Health
  • Janice Kirchner, President, Faculty Association
  • Lana West, Vice-Chair, AUPE 071/005
  • Dennis Beaudoin, Dean, Division of Trades & Technology

An extensive consultation process with Medicine Hat College stakeholders was recently conducted to help define the skills and experience they believe necessary for our next president. The results of the consultations helped create an opportunity profile that will be used in advertising the position.

The thoughtful and insightful comments were carefully considered and the board sincerely appreciates the time and effort of all respondents. The opportunity profile will be posted to several websites including Academica Careers, Colleges and Institutes Canada, and LinkedIn for 6 – 8 weeks at which point the shortlisting committee will begin to evaluate the applicants.

Please note, the firm contracted to facilitate the search process has changed its name. Davies Park is now called Leaders International Executive Search.

To aid in the recruitment of a new president, a subcommittee was established– consisting of MHC Board Chair, Graham Kelly; non-academic member, Jade Kent; and public member, Davin Carter – to select an executive search firm. On March 20, the subcommittee posted a Request for Proposal for recruitment services for a president and CEO for Medicine Hat College. Proposals will be accepted until April 11, 2018 with the goal of evaluating and hiring an executive search firm by April 26, 2018.

The board will begin work with the search firm immediately upon awarding the contract, including defining the recruitment process, and establishing the selection committee. We are committed to making the process inclusive, transparent and effective and will continue to provide updates as they are available.
