Wording a Will
Below are three examples of how to word a will, however, we suggest that you consult with the Medicine Hat College Foundation Office to ensure the bequest may be fulfilled as intended.
- I give, devise and bequeath Medicine Hat College (dollar amount or gift of property or portion of the residue) to be used in such manner as the Board may direct.
- I give, devise and bequeath to Medicine Hat College (dollar amount or gift of property or portion of the residue) for the purchase of books in (field of study). It is further directed that each volume purchased will bear a book plate that shall read “In memory of ___________ and donated by ___________.”
- I give, devise and bequeath to Medicine Hat College (dollar amount or gift of property or portion of the residue) to be invested as they see fit for the purpose of funding an endowed scholarship, which will be known as “____________ .”
After any of the above, the following wording should be included:
"If, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the Medicine Hat College, it should become impossible, inadvisable, or impractical to use this gift for the specified purpose(s), then the Board may in their discretion use the gift to the best advantage of Medicine Hat College, keeping in mind the original wishes of the donor. In any such alternative application, the support provided by this bequest shall be clearly identified with the name of MARY JONES.
Any matching grants obtainable as a result of this bequest shall be used at the discretion of Medicine Hat College to ensure or enhance the continuance of the fund for the purposes intended.”
