Medicine Hat College is seeking a language and literacy development lead facilitator in Bow Island to provide basic literacy tutoring and/or group instruction to adult Albertans who want to improve their literacy skills. This is a part-time contract position beginning on September 3, 2019 to June 30, 2020 with the opportunity for renewal in September 2020.
Reporting to and working in conjunction with the Program Coordinator, this position will be responsible for identifying new literacy-based initiatives and community partnerships and the recruitment/referral of qualified learners. Activities also include identifying learners’ needs and goals to be achieved through individual tutoring or group instruction in literacy skills development, leading other program staff in the creation of suitable literacy plans or programs for learners, and implementing appropriate strategies, tools and curricula to facilitate the learners’ literacy skills development. This position may be combined with the Program Coordinator position.
- A post-secondary degree/diploma and training in adult literacy development or English language learning
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- A strong understanding of adults as learners and familiarity with literacy content are required
- The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills as well as proficiency in computer skills
- A class 5 drivers’ license and reliable vehicle to travel regularly within the County of 40 Mile
Hours of Work: Up to 8 hours per week
Wage Rate: $23.50 gross per hour
