Cherish Wilcock

Early Childhood Music

Cherish Wilcock was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta and was fortunate enough to study both piano with Elaine Shandro and choral with Joanne Collier at the MHC Conservatory. After obtaining her grade 10 piano, she received a Bachelor’s of Music Education at Brigham Young University under the direction of Richard Anderson. There she also studied early childhood music, elementary education, conducting and choral instruction.

In addition to raising her 4 boys, Cherish has enjoyed teaching private piano lessons for over 6 years to children of all ages and regularly accompanies soloists and children’s singing groups through her church. Recently she developed a unique inter-generational music preschool that allows seniors and young children to share in the joy of making music together. She has a great passion for teaching music especially to children. Her philosophy for teaching music is deeply rooted in the Kodaly and Orff methods of combining interactive play, beautiful singing, movement and instruments to create a fun, stimulating environment where a child can sing, express and create.
