Shee Ling

Violin

Shee Ling, a native of Malaysia, began studying piano at an early age and received his LRSM (London) in piano performance. After finishing his piano studies he switched to violin at the age of 14 under the tutelage of Ho Boon Thiam in Singapore. After graduating from high school, he moved to the United States and continued his violin studies with Dr. Tony Brandolino and Phyllis Skoldberg. He later received his B.Mus, and M.Mus in violin performance. While at Arizona State University, he served as a teaching assistant to Skoldberg and at the University of Iowa to Katie Wolfe. He was also a well sought out accompanist when working on his studies in United States.

He received further training from attending Great Mountain Music Festival in South Korea (GMMF) and Domaine Forget International Music Festival in Canada with a variety of teachers from Julliard, Paris Conservatory and Indiana University.  He was awarded an outstanding senior performer in his undergraduate study and also the National Scholars Honor Society award.

As a music educator, Shee has taught at Lucky Music School, Schumann Music Center, and SRJK(C) Foon Yew No.4 elementary school in Malaysia. While in United States, one of his students get accepted into Eastman School of Music and Peabody Conservatory of Music.

Shee is also an accomplished orchestral player, having played in many orchestras in the United States and Canada including the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra (Sub) and TMF Orchestra (Sub), Lethbridge Symphony and Symphony of the Kootenay. As a chamber musician, he performed in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge in a string trio, string duet, piano trio and piano quintet with Gabe Kastelic, Airdrie Robinson, John-Paul Kasiazek, Christine Bootland, Benjamin Thacher, Dr. Brian Buckstead, Elaine-Dobek Shandro, Shauna Kolhs Walters, and Robert Bardston. As an adjudicator, he has been sought after in Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan. During the summer, he teaches at the Turtle Mountain Music Camp in Crowsnest Pass, AB.

In 2008, Shee moved to Canada and began his teaching career as a violin and viola instructor at Medicine Hat College.
