“Make your match” at career fair

October 16, 2012

Career information and job opportunities will be the focus of next week’s Career Day and Recruitment Fair at Medicine Hat College. With all major industries being represented by the more than 65 registered exhibitors, job seekers can expect an incredible opportunity to make career connections with employers at the local, regional, provincial, and national levels.

The event takes place on Tuesday, October 23 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Centennial Hall foyer and B-Wing hallway, and is the only recruitment event of its kind in Medicine Hat.

“Each year this event draws more and more attention from employers, and we are so pleased with the number of prominent organizations who want to participate,” said Stuart Riley, career advisor at MHC.

With employment and the current labour market on the minds of students and the public alike, the college is pleased to open its doors to the community and help employers meet their recruitment needs.

Exhibitors will be discussing their career and job opportunities, company perks, application process, and offer tips for obtaining employment within their organizations. Representatives from the oil and gas, health care, business, policing, science, engineering, environmental, trades and construction, manufacturing, industrial, government, finance, hospitality, and retail industries will be on hand.

“We really strive to include a diverse and comprehensive list of employers to meet the needs of all job seekers,” said Riley. “Each year we have had individuals walk away with valuable contact information, and even job offers, so the more connections we can facilitate between employers and attendees, the better.”

Also in attendance will be numerous career-related service providers, post-secondary partners, and informational groups to answer questions and provide supports for job seekers. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to sign up for an upcoming Resume Development Workshop at MHC.

With many attendees receiving actual job offers each year at this event, job seekers are asked to come prepared to make the right first impression. Riley suggests that students and job seekers bring several copies of their current resume and dress in interview-appropriate clothing.
