MHC receives funding after Deputy Premier’s announcement
November 6, 2013
Today’s funding announcement by Deputy Premier Thomas Lukaszuk is welcome news at Medicine Hat College, says Bob McCulloch, Interim President and CEO.
“Medicine Hat College has earned a reputation for putting students first and this announcement will help us sustain and grow the opportunities we provide,” said McCulloch. “The 2.62 percent equates to $744,472 for MHC students, welcome funding as we look to implement programs such as the business and education degrees we offer in collaboration with Mount Royal University.”
McCulloch added the timing of the announcement, early in the college’s budget planning cycle, couldn’t be better. “Grant funding amounts to about half of our revenue so knowing what to expect makes a big difference as we look to the year ahead.”
The college has already launched planning for the next fiscal year with the expectation that delivering a balanced budget will be a difficult challenge. Some of the actions taken to balance the current year’s budget were known to short-term, a tactic intended to give college leaders more time to evaluate options to curtail spending or earn revenue.
