On February 25, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Medicine Hat College (MHC), in room F1008, the continuing studies department will be hosting an information session on the new supply management diploma being offered this spring. The course is a first for southern Alberta and is offered in partnership with the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA).
“SCMA introduced the diploma four years ago; we approached them to partner because we saw an opportunity to expand our programming and offer a course relevant to our local industries,” said Erin Ferris, program administrator for continuing studies. “The skill sets learned are relevant for a variety of sectors including manufacturing, construction and wholesale trade; there are a lot of local job opportunities available.”
The first three courses offered this spring cover a variety of procurement scenarios including: repetitive purchases of production materials, procuring on-time low-cost items, large capital goods acquisition and securing commodities under long-term supply contracts. They also provide a comprehensive overview of the impacts marketing as well as accounting and finance has on supply management.
“In terms of who should attend, no education or experience is required,” said Ferris. “This is also a great professional development opportunity for anyone who influences an organization’s procurement decision or for individuals in positions like warehouse clerks, production planners or purchasing assistants. All ten courses can be taken to earn your diploma or you can choose to take them individually for general interest.”
The program will commence in March and will be offered on weekends to accommodate travel.
For individuals interested in learning more about the supply management diploma and the career opportunities available, Ferris encourages you to attend the information session on February 25 or visit www.mhc.ab.ca.
A representative from SCMA will as well be available to answer questions at the MHC Job Fair. The Job Fair is on February 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall at the college, more information can be found here. The public are welcome to attend.
