Len Vandervaart, a veteran faculty member, dean and leader has accepted the post of vice-president academic at Medicine Hat College.
“I’m pleased to welcome Len as our ongoing vice president,” said MHC president Ralph Weeks. “He has been serving as interim vice-president academic since September, and his performance and leadership in that time has been outstanding.”
Vandervaart, who holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Alberta, is one of the college’s long-serving academics. His career began in 1984 when he accepted a sessional position teaching English at the Brooks Campus. His role and leadership influence have grown over the years. He was named manager of the Brooks Campus in 1993, a position he held until 1995 when he became dean of arts.
“The college today is much different than the one I joined in 1984. We’ve grown, added many programs, and found new ways to serve students and our communities,” said Vandervaart. “There’s no doubt in my mind that the years ahead will bring rapid change in both the programs we offer, and the ways we engage with students.”
