MHC Rattlers announce new head coach for the men’s volleyball team

Medicine Hat College (MHC) Rattlers would like to welcome Mark Porter as the new head coach of the men’s volleyball team effective July 22, 2015.  Coach Porter steps in to replace Steve Russell who returned to teaching junior high school.

Porter brings 37 years of coaching experience at the provincial club and high school level to MHC.  From 1989 -2008 Mark taught and coached at Bentley School in Bentley, Alberta and then moved into a similar role at Crescent Heights High School in Medicine Hat.  Currently coach Porter is an organizational development consultant with Transcend Consulting.  He is a former MHC Rattler having played for the team from 1985-87.   He also was a player/coach for the Division 1 Edinburgh Jets of the British National League in 1994-95.

Porter has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge, a Master of Organizational Psychology and is current working on a Doctor of Business Administration degree.

“We are very pleased to have found a high quality, experienced coach from right here in Medicine Hat,” said Terry Ballard, manager of Sports and Wellness.  “We are excited to have Mark join the Rattlers and we are confident he will do an outstanding job with the men’s volleyball program.”

“I look forward to being a member of Medicine Hat College’s staff and to help continue the legacy of excellence for their athletic and academic programs,” says coach Porter.
