New athletic camps for youth offered this winter at MHC

November 17, 2015

New this winter. Medicine Hat College (MHC) is excited to hold athletic camps for youth from December 21-23, 2015.

The new camps, named after the college’s athletics team – the Rattlers, focus on providing kids the opportunity to stay active, learn new skills and make friends during the school break.

“For the older group – the Recruits, ages eight to eleven - we are emphasizing the development of sport specific skills in a variety of indoor activities ranging from basketball and volleyball to soccer and lacrosse. It’s a way to help our future athletes develop the necessary skills and training to be in their desired sport,” says Kristina Segall, athletic and recreation programmer.

Segall goes on to explain that for the younger group – the Rugrats, ages five to seven- there will be an emphasis on having fun, learning basic new skills and teaching them to play with others.

“I encourage parents to register their children for our winter camps as they will get to try a variety of sports and recreational activities that will teach them invaluable skills like sportsmanship, leadership, goal setting, and team work,” says Segall.

The college plans to continue to offer these types of camps into the new year.

“We have introduced the youth camps this winter, however will continue to provide opportunities for parents to enrol their kids during other times of the year including in February, and April,” says Segall.
