APEGA donates $10,000 to UT engineering program at MHC
May 28, 2018
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) Medicine Hat have pledged $10,000 to support UT engineering students at Medicine Hat College (MHC). The donation will be allocated in $2,000 scholarships across five years.
APEGA chair Clayton Bos explains that they hope that this gift helps students prepare for their future careers.
“We, as a branch, are thrilled to help students in their journey to an exciting professional career in engineering and geoscience.”
The donation is an extension to the supports already offered by APEGA. Bos mentions that all students can participate in the Student Advantage Program that offers benefits including access to job boards, volunteer opportunities, events and discounts.
“I have been a faculty member at MHC for fifteen years, and I personally participated in the UT engineering program at the college. I recognize the importance of networks like APEGA, and just as it is my role to teach and inspire students to succeed in this industry, it is something I feel our organization makes an effort to do as well.”
Sandy Vanderburgh, dean of science and health, mentions that the college is always appreciative of our partners, like APEGA, that support students, either through financial contributions or mentorship.
“We are very fortunate to have partners who are gracious with their time and resources. It provides us an opportunity to give our students real-world experience in and out of the classroom,” says Vanderburgh. “We believe in the value that comes from our students getting involved with organizations like APEGA; it will open doors that can help them succeed.”
