Rattlers ready for nationals in Medicine Hat
October 1, 2018
For the first time in the history of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the golf national championships will be hosted in Alberta. Athletes will compete from Oct. 16-19, 2018 at Desert Blume Golf Course in Medicine Hat.
“Medicine Hat College and Rattlers Athletics are proud to be the hosts for the 2018 CCAA Ping National Golf Championships,” says Terry Ballard, manager of sport and wellness at Medicine Hat College (MHC). “The Championships will be held on a world class golf course – Desert Blume – offering CCAA golfers a challenging test on a beautiful desert setting. We are excited to welcome the nation and look forward to providing a memorable experience for all CCAA student-athletes.”
MHC’s golf team consists of: Ciara Bonogofski, Becky Martin, Nicole Schultz, Sierra Zukowski, David Coldham, Kent Lesko, Brady Resch, Keaton Sulz, Matthaus Taylor and Derek Whitson. While it’s not the first time the Rattlers have represented MHC at the national level, it is the first time they will be able to share the experience with family and friends at home in Medicine Hat, says long-time golf coach Trevor Moore.
According to Moore, this particular group shares a special bond and is one of the closest teams he has ever had.
“The women are strong and contain so much depth; this group has participated in a total of six national championships. That experience is powerful and collectively they are leading these teams both on and off the course with the perspective they can share.”
He adds that although the men are a bit less experienced they are open to the knowledge, strength and leadership their female teammates provide.
“The men’s team has some work to do, but all players are willing to control their own destiny this season by putting in the work. I am excited for both teams and look forward to seeing how things unfold for them this season.”
