Methods in Art History
In this course, students will study and discuss the key ideas oncritical theory, aesthetics, literary theory, film and media studies, architectural theory, visual studies, and cultural studies within the modern and post-modern eras. We will see how theories can help us devise questions about artistic processes, production, objects, curation, and reception. Different methods entail different types of questions and concerns. Students are encouraged to explore the relevancy and application of the various theoretical frameworkswithin their own artistic practice and/or study.
