Social Work with Mental Illness, Trauma and Addictions
SLWK 211 provides students with an understanding of the many interrelated factors that affect various client populations and the roles of social workers in dealing with mental illness, trauma, and addictions. Students will learn the importance of a cross cultural perspective, and to examine traditional beliefs and assumptions about mental illness and addictions. From a best practices model students will review creative preventative programs looking at the social determinants of health. Students will be invited to challenge their personal views about mental illness and addictions.
Prerequisite: Minimum of a C grade in SLWK 101& SLWK 102 & (SLWK 103 or HLSC 220) & (SLWK 105 or HLSC 320)
