MHC Girls’ Choir concert to feature diverse program

November 25, 2016

In celebration of the holiday season, the Medicine Hat College Girls’ Choir invites the community to their annual Christmas concert on Nov. 30. This year’s performance – Les Anges Chantent – will offer the audience a variety of musical styles and themes.

Coming off a very successful performance year that saw the choir win the grand prize at the Ihlombe! South African Choral Festival, the ensemble looks forward to sharing music inspired by their international experience. The concert will include a set of music acquired in South Africa, with one piece featuring traditional drumming and dancing. Winter will also be another theme in the evening's performance, with a humorous and choreographed rendition of a Canadian classic – The Hockey Song.

Bradley van Middelkoop, the choir's director, will also shine a spotlight on individual talent with three special solo performances.

Amara Hellman has been a choir member for six years and enjoys the diverse repertoire of music they learn and perform.

The choir is an opportunity to make some really great music. We sing everything under the sun. It has helped me appreciate all types of music. Folk, classical, world - I love it all,” says Hellman. “Come watch a performance and you’ll see how music can bring out the best in people.”

The Les Anges Chantent concert will be held at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. For a complete list of Christmas performances by MHC conservatory groups, please visit www.mhc.ab.ca/conservatory/concertsandevents.
