Alberta-based ATCO is showing its support to Medicine Hat College students in a big way.
The company recently pledged $25,000 toward scholarships for power engineering students, adding to the $25,000 it gave the college in 2009.
“It is always nice to have community businesses supporting our students,” said Deanna Haysom, development officer at MHC. “The fact that they have returned to us, two years after an initial donation, shows a strong commitment to education in our region.”
The new donation will be spread over five years and create 20 scholarships for power engineering students. ATCO also supported the power engineering program with its 2009 donation.
ATCO also adds professional expertise to MHC. The company has two representatives on the Power Engineering Advisory Committee and guest lecturers from ATCO engage with the power engineering faculty and students.
“Companies like ATCO offer so much to Medicine Hat College,” Haysom added. “We benefit not only from their financial support but from their industry know-how. It’s a win-win situation for us.”
