MHC Conservatory of Music & Dance students place first at Alberta Music Festival
June 2, 2014
Medicine Hat College (MHC) Conservatory of Music and Dance would like to congratulate Seanachie Clark, who won first place in solo viola (16 years and under) at the 2014 Alberta Music Festival, which was held this weekend in Edmonton, Alberta. Clark was accompanied by instructor Elaine Dobek-Shandro.
Other awards include Meagan Bauman who took home first place in the national class for woodwind. Bauman was a former student of instructor Lyle Rebbeck, and was accompanied by Dobek-Shandro. She will now go onto represent Alberta at Nationals in Kelowna, BC this summer. Samantha Dolter, a student of instructor Constantine Shandro, placed second in both her piano solo (grade 9-10 class) and in the piano concerto (complete).
“We are immensely proud of the hard work and dedication, not only of our students, but our instructors as well,” said Catherine Annau, manager of visual and performing arts. “Their passion and commitment to music has resulted in phenomenal performances at provincials.”
Annau mentioned that the Conservatory of Music and Dance had a large presence at the festival with 18 students in attendance.
“I think the number of representatives sent to provincials from our institution says a lot about the quality of our program,” said Annau. “We are proud of all of those that attended and look forward to continuing to work with them.”
The college also reminds the public that these performers can be seen throughout the year at various events in the community and encourage you to visit www.mhc.ab.ca/conservatory for upcoming news and events.
