New development officer takes on role as match-maker at MHC
January 3, 2014
Bringing over seven years of experience in economic development, employment and career resources as well as hotel financial appraisals across Canada, Tracy Stroud has recently joined the Medicine Hat College (MHC) Foundation as the development officer.
Stroud has already identified natural synergies between the college and private industry.
“I love this community and I’ve worked directly with businesses in various industries such as oil and gas, agriculture, tourism and manufacturing. I see opportunities for collaboration that will benefit our students, which in turn will provide a more educated and qualified workforce for the region.”
Every year the Foundation receives donations from individuals, companies, organizations and community groups that are interested in investing in the future of students and post-secondary education. 100 percent of the money goes towards enhancing the quality of learning available to students. Donors can choose from a variety of mediums to make that happen, from bursaries and scholarships, to program enhancements to name a few.
Stroud describes the Foundation’s role as a match-making service.
“It is our job to meet with prospective donors, educate them on the projects that are happening around the college and see where we can collaborate and align with them on their charitable goals. Our door is always open to have these conversations.”
Stroud mentioned that while meeting with various departments within the college, she sees areas for internal collaboration and ways for external stakeholders to get involved.
“There are examples at the College of students undertaking research, entrepreneurs starting businesses, and teachers finding innovative ways to integrate technology into the classroom,” said Stroud. “So why not work together as an institution, with the community, to ensure our students can continue to be part of leading edge projects and graduate with the skills that are in demand.”
If you are an individual looking to support education, a business looking to invest in the future of our economy or an organization committed to a particular cause Stroud encourages you to contact the Foundation.
“Great things happen when people work together. So let’s start the process and have the conversation.”
