MHC welcomes new chair to the Board of Governors

Medicine Hat College (MHC) is pleased to announce that Darren Hirsch has been appointed chair of the Board of Governors by an Order-in-Council from the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.
Hirsch is an alum from MHC’s university transfer kinesiology program and has a bachelor of arts from the University of Lethbridge. Upon completing his education, he entered the business world and has been in the financial industry for over 15 years and is currently a senior relationship manager with Servus Credit Union. He is also a franchisee with two Pita Pit locations in Medicine Hat, Alberta. From 2010 to 2012 he served as the first chair of the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce and from 2004 to 2007 as alderman for the City of Medicine Hat.
“I am very excited to be appointed board chair and have the opportunity to serve an institution like Medicine Hat College,” said Hirsch. “I look forward to working with the board, our new president and leaders throughout the institution and as well representing the interest of the community, our students and the employees.”
Hirsch will replace outgoing chair Don Bruce, whose term ended on July 22, 2014. Bruce served as chair on the board for three years.
“It has been an honour serving on the Board of Governors. Darren is coming in at a very exciting time for the institution as it moves forward and plans for the future,” said Bruce. “I wish him luck and of course want to congratulate him on his new role with the college.”
Also new to the Board of Governors is Dennis Egert, Mohammed Y. Idriss and Kenneth C. Reeder who will be taking over for outgoing members Austin Curtin, Ken MacPhail and Barton Reimer. The terms are set to expire on July 22, 2017.
