College hosts their first Relay for Life

October 23, 2013

On November 14, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m., Medicine Hat College (MHC) and the Canadian Cancer Society are teaming up to host the MHC Relay for Life; an inspirational, non-competitive fundraising event that brings the community together to celebrate life and raise money for cancer research. The walk will take place inside the college and will be followed by entertainment as well as food and beverages at Crave.

So far over nine teams have registered.

“There is still time to create a team and be part of the MHC’s first Relay for Life event,” said Stuart Riley, member of the Relay for Life Planning Committee. “The College supports various causes in the community, and when approached by the Canadian Cancer Society we felt it would be a great way to continue those efforts and create an impact on a topic that touches many people.”

Various committees and departments within the college have formed teams and are fundraising for the event including student services, division of business and enterprise, division of arts and the Campus Life committee.

2013 marks the 75th anniversary for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“We are happy to be part of such a momentous time for the Society,” said Riley. “That is 75 years of providing information services and support programs to our communities, funding research and being a beneficial resource.”

To register a team for the walk, or purchase a luminary, visit MHC’s Relay for Life website or contact Stuart Riley at sriley@mhc.ab.ca or 403.504.3569.

The college encourages the public to follow them on Twitter (@MHCollege) and “Like” them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MHCollege for updates on this and other events.
