The 2014 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship will be hosted by the Medicine Hat College (MHC) Rattlers from November 5 – 8, 2014 at the Methanex Bowl in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
As the host, this guarantees that the women’s soccer team will be one of the eight groups competing. The championship will attract teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.
When asked what being awarded the nationals means to the college, Terry Ballard, manager of sports and wellness explains that the first thing that comes to mind is the opportunity it provides the student athletes.
“Being awarded the championships ensures that our women’s soccer team is automatically in the finals,” said Ballard. “They work hard year-long, and are often one of the top teams in the conference so it is nice to see that they will be provided the chance to compete on a national stage.”
The college is collaborating with organizations throughout the community to ensure that visitors to Medicine Hat will have a positive experience and witness first-hand the state-of-the-art recreational facilities located in the area.
“This is a terrific event to engage the college as well as the regional community,” explains Ballard. “We already have local businesses jumping on board to participate as sponsors and support the event and we are working closely with the City of Medicine Hat as well as local school and community groups, like the minor soccer association, to ensure athletes experience the best that Medicine Hat has to offer.”
MHC would like to thank the following sponsors for making this event possible: CCAA, Adidas, Big Kahuna, Jostens, Sport Canada, WestJet, Alberta Sport Connection and BMO Bank of Montreal.
