Medicine Hat College (MHC) will play host to delegates from across the country this November during the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Energy Symposium.

The CICan 2015 Energy Symposium will take place November 5-7 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Medicine Hat College will be hosting the event, along with the co-chair of the national planning committee, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

The theme for the symposium is Energy Partnerships, Plug in! Innovation. Skills. Efficiency. Research. Speakers and keynotes will feature the most innovative practices in the sector as well as skills development and in demand skills for the sector. Participants will have the opportunity to share and discuss advances in energy efficiency and applied research led by the college sector and industry.

Dr. Denise Henning, president and CEO of Medicine Hat College and co-chair of the national planning committee, acknowledges what an event like this brings to the community. “Medicine Hat is a great place to talk about energy. Our city is paving the way in developing innovative projects, such as the Hat Smart initiative or the compressed natural gas buses, and we are proud to partner with our civic leaders to showcase both their initiatives and our institution.”

The symposium will attract a diverse group of applied researchers and senior college administrators, along with representatives from municipal, provincial, territorial and federal governments, industry, utilities, manufacturers, and interest holders in the energy sector. Keynotes are being invited and will represent major energy leaders in Canada and around the world. The organizers are also working on an Indigenous Panel as well as a panel to discuss smart grid technologies.

The conference is also open to public registrants. “We encourage anyone who has an interest in the energy industry to attend the conference to learn more about cutting edge technologies, green initiatives and other trends and opportunities in the field of energy,” says Henning.
