MHC invites the community to a free movie night

Public asked to vote for their flick pick

August 26, 2015

Medicine Hat College (MHC) is planning a “welcome back” celebration and is inviting new and returning students, alumni and the community to participate. Join us the evening of Wednesday, September 2, 2015 as local food vendors and Park after Dark Cinemas take over the campus.

This event is one of the first of many activities during the college’s 50th anniversary.

“This is always an exciting time of year for us, the college population grows and we get to host fun events like this that invite the community on campus,” says Jennifer Fleckenstein, student recruiter. “However, this year in particular our New Student Orientation takes on a very special meaning, the college is celebrating the big 5 – 0.”

From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. various local food vendors will be available to provide dinner and dessert options. You can purchase dishes from

  • Twisted Chef: specializing in Global Street Food
  • IL Forno Vagabondo: an Italian wood-fired oven in a food truck that serves traditional Neapolitan pizza
  • Captain Pork: wicked pork!
  • Wannawafel: authentic Belgian Liefe Wafels that are elevated by a selection of toppings which are both sweet and savoury
  • Pooty's Poutine: mobile food vendor service specializing in poutine, burgers and smokies
  • Swirls Ice Cream: the most delicious ice cream here in the Hat... but mobile!

From 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. a free movie will show on the lawn of the campus. Popcorn will be available courtesy of the MHC Campus Life Committee.

“To follow with the theme of MHC’s 50th we are giving the first 50 people who attend the movie a surprise gift,” says Fleckenstein. “We hope that people can come out and enjoy good food, entertainment and of course meet some new friends.”

Currently, the college has narrowed the movie options down to three titles and is asking the public to vote for which one they want to be shown that evening. The final three are Pitch Perfect, Legally Blonde and Accepted. To vote for the movie you would like to see visit www.mhc.ab.ca.

Medicine Hat College would like to thank TD Insurance Meloche Monnex who sponsored the movie.  TD is a strong supporter of the college and continues to offer great discounts and services to MHC alumni.
