Graduate from MHC takes to the skies with his new business
May 6, 2016
Daniel Wilson, owner of Wilson Tech has created a company that specializes in aerial photography with the use of a remotely piloted vehicle.Wilson will be focused primarily on servicing the agriculture and real estate industries.
“By using an unmanned aerial vehicle with an infrared camera I am able to take aerial shots for a variety of industries including, agriculture, energy and surveying,” says Wilson. “For example, in the morning I could be taking photos of a house for sale and capturing its beautiful view, and in the afternoon I could be taking images of agricultural land to see if there are any crop variations.”
Recently a graduate from Medicine Hat College’s education program, Wilson has been interested in photography since a young age. For the past six years, he has been working as a technology analyst for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education.
“I’ve combined my technology background and love for photography to create this business. I have done a number of projects for the school and have taken traditional photos for weddings,” says Wilson. “I am finishing my Special Flight Operation and Restricted Radio Operators certificates, because as a commercial business it is important to me that I am compliant with Trans Canada regulations.”
Wilson was part of the Entrepreneur Development Centre’s Summer Company program, which he feels has helped him move his company forward.

“Through the program I have received a lot of guidance in making a business plan. I had the idea, but I just needed to put it down on paper and apply it in a way that would create a viable company,” says Wilson. “They’ve helped me a lot in the sense that they assisted me in organizing my ideas and helped make my vision happen.”
