MHC’s Brooks Campus celebrates achievement at annual awards
April 4, 2018
On April 4, 2018, Medicine Hat College’s (MHC) Brooks Campus held their annual awards ceremony. The event provides an opportunity for the college and community to applaud the accomplishments of the students at Brooks Campus.
“This is an exciting day for many of our students,” says Cindy Slenders, director of Brooks Campus and regional stewardship. “Many of these students are not only working towards their academic goals, but also working full or part-time jobs and supporting their families, so moments of recognition are very powerful.”
Amongst the winners were practical nursing student, Dalis Hofer who received the Outstanding Student of the Year award and Ensaf Rahmtalla, who is taking English as a Second Language and was the Spirit of Learning recipient.
Terry Ann McMullin, academic advisor, explains that both of these girls are very deserving of the awards and are a solid representation of the students that attend MHC.
“Our campus is full of students who have diverse backgrounds and are committed to learning. Dalis is diligent in her studies, she is filled with boundless energy and has a desire to help others. And like many of her peers she is eager to hit the ground running once she has completed her studies.”
Rahmtalla, according to McMullin, is a great example of an adult learner who is committed to completing her program.
“Ensaf is a joy to be around, a mother wanting to set an example for her children – saying you are never too old to learn new skills. Always smiling, happy and willing to assist other students in need. She works very hard to improve her English each and every day. We are excited to be able to honour these, as well as our other award recipients.”
Other awards given out included honour role, scholarships and program awards. To view the program and a full list of award recipients click here.
