$130,000 endowment created to support Métis students at MHC
September 12, 2018
The Rupertsland Institute and Métis Education Foundation have partnered with Medicine Hat College (MHC) to create a $130,000 endowment to support Métis students at the post-secondary institution.
As part of the agreement, the Métis Nation of Alberta will invest $100,000 and MHC will provide an in-kind contribution of $30,000.
“Today, I am happy to announce and celebrate yet another milestone,” says president of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Audrey Poitras. “The Métis Nation of Alberta and its affiliates, in partnership with Medicine Hat College, have reached an agreement to create a $130,000 endowment. This contribution on behalf of future generations of Métis citizens could not be possible without the relationships and partnerships that we have created with the Métis community and stakeholders across the province.”
Acting president of MHC, Wayne Resch mentions the importance of partnerships like these in helping to reduce the cost of education for students.
“All of us at the college know the value of a good education. It is an honour to work with organizations like the Rupertsland Institute, Métis Education Foundation and the Métis Nation of Alberta, which help make post-secondary education a reality for many students. We are focused on meeting the needs of individual students, and increasing support to Indigenous and Métis people. This contribution is most appreciated.”
