Jobseekers and employers to connect at MHC’s community job fair

February 13, 2020

Over 40 employers will be at Medicine Hat College (MHC) on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020 and ready to meet enthusiastic job seekers and individuals interested in pursuing a career in a variety of different industries.

The Community Job Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Centennial Hall and is open to the public free of charge, with no registration required for jobseekers.

“We’re looking forward to hosting another great event here at MHC, providing the space for industry professionals to recruit local talent and valuable networking to occur. With a variety of different professions and industries represented among new and returning exhibitors, there will be something for everyone,” says Shelly Drefs, career services assistant with MHC’s Career Centre.

Drefs adds that you don’t have to be looking for work to attend the event, as information on educational opportunities will also be available to attendees interested in pursuing post-secondary education. She encourages all MHC students and high school students, as well as members of the community, to stop by and connect with employers and educators.

A cool opportunity for individuals interested in going into the finance or investment sector will be offered as the University of Lethbridge will have their trading simulator for attendees to try out.

The Department of National Defense will be conducting on-the-spot interviews, looking to fill various positions including general help, such as kitchen staff for example, labour positions, skilled trades, summer jobs and more.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks, Moose Jaw Police Service, Canadian Pacific Railway, and Aquatic Invasive Species Program will be in attendance as new exhibitors at the event.

In a separate occasion, the Moose Jaw Police Service will be hosting a Career Information Session on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. in Room S144 at MHC for anyone interested in learning about jobs within the criminal justice sector.

Drefs notes that space is still available for exhibitors to sign up, and the online registration form, as well as a list of exhibitors, can be found at https://www.mhc.ab.ca/Services/CareerCentre/JobFair.
