42nd annual Rattler Run focuses on inclusion

March 18, 2021

The Rattler Run at Medicine Hat College (MHC) has always been about celebrating community and living an active lifestyle and this year’s event is no exception. Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to get outside on Saturday, Apr. 24 and run, walk, or roll and be part of this tradition on their own terms.

The race will continue in a virtual format for 2021, meaning individuals can complete their run anytime, anywhere on Apr. 24 and share their experience through social media with the hashtag #irun4me. Racers can plot their own 3k, 5k, or 10k course, or check out established race routes around MHC at www.rattlerrun.ca.

Bill Corcoran, coach of the newly formed Rattlers cross-country team, is looking forward to his first Rattler Run since joining MHC last summer.

“Grassroots runs like the Rattler Run are important. I've coached dozens of athletes over the years who got their starts in their local, mass participation run/walk/cycle events. And even if you aren't going to be the next local, provincial, or national champion, participating in an event like this is an important part of developing a daily exercise habit and leading a healthier, and better, life," says Corcoran, who plans to run a 10km along with his athletes.

"We plan to get all of our current Rattlers runners and recruits to participate in this year's event.  This is going to be our first new tradition for the relaunched Rattlers running program."

Online registration is free and opens on Mar. 29 at www.rattlerrun.ca.

A special thank you goes out to MHC’s affinity program partner, TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, for their generous donation of a draw prize to recognize our 2021 MHC Virtual Rattler Run participants.
