Drama students falling for fame

April 8, 2022
The scene is set for Medicine Hat College (MHC) drama students to take the stage on Monday with 15 Minutes of YouTube Fame.
This comedy follows the rapid rise and fall of Dillon, a teenager whose life is turned upside-down when a video of her goes viral, explains Josie Hoffarth, a first year Bachelor of Arts student who plays the lead role.
With less than a month to deliver on their own 30 minutes of fame, Hoffarth and her classmates have been busy analyzing characters, learning cues, and managing props, costumes and lighting to support the final production.
“Through this process, I learned there is so much more than what is seen on stage. Character development is huge. We have to figure out the character’s background, their motivation, and their goals so it can all come across in the performance.”
She also believes it’s important to have a connection with other performers so they can interact and help each other out on stage, adding that the cast is made up from a variety of disciplines including arts, education and science which has provided students an opportunity to build relationships outside of their programs.
Hoffarth and her classmates look forward to welcoming everyone to the show on Monday.
“There is a variety of unique characters that all bring something new to the table along with a sense of humour the audience will be sure to enjoy!”
15 Minutes of YouTube Fame is open to the public and free to attend on Monday Apr. 11 at 2:15 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at the Cultural Centre.
