Celebrating 50 years of nursing excellence

Nursing Alumni - Class of 1973United by a shared journey, seven nursing alumni from Medicine Hat College’s 1973 graduating class recently gathered for a nostalgic reunion at their alma mater. While touring the new facility expansion, they reflected at how much the postsecondary institution, as well as the healthcare profession, has transformed over the past 50 years.

As tea was poured and stories were shared, an evident sense of pride filled the room, along with an unspoken camaraderie based on connections forged during their time at MHC and a shared dedication to the art of healing.

Revealing pieces of MHC’s history, the evolution of an industry, and their unwavering to the healthcare profession, alumni and retired nurses, Linda Collier and Linda Glasier, generously shared a more in-depth glimpse into their journey.

MHC Nursing Alumni Award

In 1997, alumni from the 1973 nursing cohort created a scholarship to recognize and support learner exhibiting outstanding academic achievement. Annually, the fund generates a set number of awards, ensuring that the legacy of these alumni continues and provides vital assistance to upcoming generations of students.

Linda Collier, Nursing Alumna

Nursing: Then & Now

Linda Collier worked 43 years in the industry, 27 of them in emergency and “loved every minute of it.” To this day, hearing a siren from the ambulance or police will halt her in her spot and provide an immediate sense of duty.

“You’d be able to look at each other and almost read what each was thinking. You knew what they were going to do and where they needed backup. There was a rhythm we followed when we worked as a team.”
