Felix Piayda, Coordinator/Instructor
Education & Credentials:
- Architecture Degree (Dipl. Ing. FH), University of Applied Science and Arts Hildesheim, Germany
Began teaching at MHC: 2019
Felix was born, raised and educated in Hanover, Germany. At the age of 14, he was introduced to the field of architecture while participating in a school practicum at an architecture firm. It was at that point that he decided to focus his studies on architecture and chose to attend a high school specialized in design.
In addition to his undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Architecture, Felix worked on construction sites and at several architecture and design studios to gain practical experience in his field. Before joining the Medicine Hat College, Felix was employed in Germany and North America with smaller, highly specialized boutique firms, focusing on doctor's offices and premium dwellings, as well as large firms with diverse client portfolios. Felix is able to bring this real-world and worldwide experience into the classroom. He is keenly interested in differences between the building industries in Europe and North America. While instructing, he enjoys delving into these comparisons with his students to show them that there is more than one way to do most things.
As an instructor, Felix creates meaningful, practical experiences where his students can apply their acquired knowledge and skill. Practical applications and hands-on tasks support his students to profoundly understand construction methods and details. In addition to making his students learning experience fun and interesting, he wants to prepare them with well-rounded knowledge of construction methods.
With an interest in sustainable architecture, Felix is currently researching Passive House designs and their application in Canadian climate zones.
