- University of Great Falls - BSc - computer science
- Selkirk College - Diploma in electronics technology

Steve's career has brought him full circle back to Medicine Hat College as he started there in the IT department after graduating from an electronics technology program. After five years at MHC, he left to do contract work for the Canadian Department of National Defense, owned his own business, Zanthic Technologies Inc. (and 3 other businesses along the way), and then returned as a full-time instructor.
As the owner and designer for Zanthic Technologies Inc., he was involved in electronic design, circuit board layout, firmware development, protocol development, as well as PC software development. His contract work for Defense Canada includes robotic and mine detection vehicles, and for industry ranged from GPS vehicle tracking and remote diagnostic sensors, home automation, battery management for lithium-ion cells, robotic mining vehicles, and remote equipment monitoring. He has brought dozens of new designs to market and has shipped his computer interface products to over 30 countries.
His education includes a diploma in electronic engineering, a BSc. in computer science, and an MBA in entrepreneurship. He returned to teach at MHC part-time in 2009 and full-time in 2012. He also manages the Co-Op program that places the ITEC students into local technology businesses. His goal as a college instructor is to bring his years of hardware and software design experience into the classroom in a very practical manner and to encourage his students to see information technology as a much broader field than how it is normally perceived. He also likes to challenge his students to consider being self-employed as one of the many possible career choices they will have when entering the workforce.
