Early Alert & Academic Probation
If you're a student facing academic challenges, you can access customized modules to find solutions that will help you to find success.
MHC has two processes to support students experiencing academic challenges:
When grades begin to fall, Early Alert is a helpful tool that will help you reflect on your challenges and provide on-campus supports to help them improve.
Below is how Early Alert works:
- Students with a GPA between 1.7 and 2.0 are notified via email at the end of the semester that their academic standing could be at risk.
- Students are provided access to the Early Alert Module to help them recognize challenges and on-campus supports and resources.
This process is optional and self-facilitated by students, as a method of self-reflection. ALL students seeking a self-reflection tool and additional support can self-enroll in the Early Alert Module on Blackboard.

Academic probation occurs when a student's GPA falls below 1.7 and are at risk of academic dismissal.
Below is how Academic Probation works:
- Students will a GPA below are notified via email at the end of the semester that they have been placed on academic probation. Students are instructed to complete an online assessment and book and appointment with their advisor.
- Students are enrolled in the Student Success Planner Module on Blackboard to complete an assessment.
- Assessments are reviewed by the Academic Probation Committee and referrals are made to MHC support staff. Advisors and other support staff will work with the student to develop a success plan.
