English Language Requirements

English Language Proficiency Examinations accepted by Medicine Hat College

Note: English language proficiency (ELP) is a requirement for any student not educated in an English language proficiency exempt country. For a list of exempt countries, please see the bottom of this page. Students should also be aware that their program may also have a literature requirement – in Alberta, we call this requirement English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2. This requirement is separate from ELP.

The official policy for Medicine Hat College on English Language proficiency is located in the Academic Calendar.

All examinations must be academic and not general where applicable.

Note: Students who have taken AP, IB or GCE curriculums should consult above to see if their coursework qualifies them for English Language proficiency. Dual language countries like Cameroon, Gambia, Canada, etc. will need to show proof of English instruction via official transcripts issued by the appropriate authority.
