I believe that the best way to learn is through connection. I strive to create a community of courage and kindness in the classroom where we can have fun, laugh, and honor each other's stories. I am passionate about the profession of social work and I feel so grateful to be in position where I am helping to train people to enter the field. I strive to make assessments in my courses really meaningful to students and innovative; we create digital stories, engage in creating a mock family social work file, and there may even be an escape room. Things are always changing in my classes. My background is working as a mental health therapist and my areas of specialization are play therapy and trauma. I bring the spirit of play and my knowledge in the field of trauma to my work here at the Medicine Hat College. I try to share my experiences with students to really help them to make connections to the materials we are learning. I think something magical happens in storytelling. The reason I am here is to work with, learn with, and support students! When I am not on campus you will find me kayaking, gardening, singing, reading, spending time with family and friends, playing with my cats (too many to admit to in writing), and planning my next adventure.
