Sonu George, Counsellor
Greetings! I'm Sonu George (he/his), a compassionate Registered Social Worker armed with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Social Work. As a newly-appointed counsellor at Medicine Hat College, I am thrilled to bring my expertise, passion, and dedication to helping our students navigate their mental well-being.
Prior to my joining Medicine Hat College, I worked at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, where I served as a student counsellor. In this role, I provided individual counselling and support to students, helping them cope with mental health issues, academic stress, and personal challenges. In addition to my role as a student counsellor, I have also served as a crisis counsellor with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). This experience has allowed me to develop a strong understanding of crisis intervention and the importance of early intervention. I am skilled in crisis assessment, Safety planning, and working closely with individuals in distress.
Outside of my work in counselling, I have a diverse range of interests and hobbies. One of my passions is playing the bamboo flute, which allows me to express myself creatively and find solace in music. Additionally, I enjoy skating and horse riding, activities that bring me joy and allow me to connect with the natural world.
