Thinking about school?

Undecided and not sure where to start?
There are so many aspects to consider when choosing your path at Medicine Hat College. Knowing yourself and understanding your values, traits, abilities, interests and what motivates you will make it easier to make an informed decision about your future program. What do you like to do? What type of lifestyle do you want? What do you do well? How long do you want to be in school?
Looking at potential career options requires you to do some research on MHC programs and career pathways you want to explore. Equipping yourself with as much information as possible helps to better set yourself up for success.
In order to make an appointment with a prospective student advisor, please take some time to work through the following steps to help you make an informed decision about attending MHC.
1. Research your options
To maximize your time with a prospective student advisor, please be prepared to discuss the following questions:- What program do I want to take?
- Do I meet the admission requirements?
- Will I require upgrading?
- How long is the program?
- How can I apply?
- How much will it cost and how will I pay for it?
- Will I need additional support [accessibility services, accommodations] to complete the program?
- How much will I have to study?
- What responsibilities will be expected of me in my chosen occupation?
- Will I have to move to gain the type of employment I want?
2. Visit CAREERinsite
Understanding your interests, skills, values, and competencies is an important step in figuring out your future career goals. There are numerous options to assist you with exploring your interests and getting to know yourself better. An excellent resource is CAREERinsite. This is a free, online career planning tool through the Government of Alberta’s ALIS website.
CAREERinsite offers self-assessments and guides individuals through the career planning process and can be accessed at https://alis.alberta.ca/careerinsite/. In addition to the CAREERinsite tool, the ALIS website provides information on education & training, job search, succeeding at work, and much more.
