Marketing students earn real-life experience thanks to donors
November 1, 2012
Medicine Hat College students are getting real-life marketing experience, thanks to a recent donation from Les and Dawn Postnikoff of Paradise Valley Golf Course.
Students in Marketing 206: Advertising and Promotions are creating a marketing campaign for local business Combing Attractions and can now use these donated funds to implement the campaign. The Postnikoffs have donated $10,000 over five years so that $1000 can be used per semester to implement marketing ideas for another local business.
Instructor Miranda Davies said the students have been hard at work designing the campaign.
“They have done a great job of studying effective advertising and different mediums,” she said. “They have worked to find the best use of the $1000 and are excited to show their ideas to the client and donors.”
The students will present their marketing ideas to both Combing Attractions staff and the Postnikoffs on Thursday. The group will also meet again in December to speak about how the campaign was implemented and how the students have been able to quantify the success of their campaign.
“Through innovative donations like these, we are able to help both students and businesses,” said Deanna Haysom, MHC’s development officer. “The Postnikoffs are helping give students real-life marketing skills and assisting in giving another local business a hand-up. These are experiences that can’t always be taught in a classroom.”
