National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+)
Held annually on May 5, this day honours the lives lost, supports impacted families, and raises awareness of the ongoing violence faced by Indigenous peoples.
A public gathering will take place on Monday, May 5 at 6 p.m. on the MHC campus outside the main entrance. It will include an Indigenous prayer, a 1 km awareness walk, guest speaker and honour song.
Attendees are encouraged to:
• Wear red to show solidarity and raise awareness
• Bring a lawn chair for comfort during the gathering
• Bring a hand drum to use during the walk (if they have one)
This event is presented in partnership with the Miywasin Friendship Centre, Firekeepers Women’s Society, and South Country Co-op.
