Medicine Hat College (MHC) is excited to announce new program options at Brooks Campus. MHC’s social work diploma program and health care aide certificate program are now confirmed for fall 2018 delivery.

“We are so pleased to provide these opportunities at the Brooks Campus. Social work and health care aide are both a great fit for Brooks and the County of Newell and there are many employment opportunities in the region for both fields,” says Denise Henning, president and CEO of Medicine Hat College. “We are committed to finding innovative ways of delivering meaningful programs at Brooks Campus on an ongoing basis.”

The social work diploma at Brooks Campus is designed for students who need to continue working while they go to school. Social work courses will be offered one at a time on alternate weekends, each for eight weeks at Brooks Campus via face-to-face delivery. The elective courses required to complete the diploma will be offered in a distance learning format. This flexible option allows students to complete the two-year diploma in two and half years, including a practicum component in the final term.

In addition, the health care aide certificate program will resume at Brooks Campus in fall 2018 after a multi-year hiatus. The format for delivery is still in development, but expected to be finalized soon.

Cindy Slenders, director of Brooks Campus and regional stewardship, emphasizes that these offerings are a part of a larger effort to revitalize the Brooks Campus. “New programs are just one way that we are working to serve Brooks and area. As many in the community are aware, we are also in partnership with Grasslands School District, County of Newell, and the City of Brooks to explore exciting possibilities for our communities, including a new high school co-located at Brooks Campus.”
