The School of Business and Continuing Studies at Medicine Hat College is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic instructors to deliver a variety of courses (both on-site and web-based) within the unique Service Dog & Canine Studies Management diploma program. On-site courses will be at our custom-built dog training facility at the Medicine Hat campus. Web-based courses will be in virtual classroom environments.

A little about the role:
Instructors in the Service Dog & Canine Studies Management program participate in wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities in lab and classroom settings including: the preparation and delivery of class content; the design and grading of student assignments and tests; and the facilitation of student integration of theory and practice. Responsibilities may include delivering lectures and hands-on instruction of lab-based classes where students gain practical experience training the program’s Service Dogs in Training. Part-time faculty member activities are focused on quality instruction in support of quality programming in a collaborative environment that contributes to the mission of the College and focus on the success of our students.
Successful candidates will have the ability to work in a team-oriented faculty in an institution that is primarily focused on students and teaching. Candidates must be able to foster student success, develop stimulating learning opportunities and participate in instructional advising with students. Successful candidates will also participate in activities outside the classroom including departmental and faculty meetings, contribute to program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.
Details:
- Degree in a training or animal-related program (e.g., adult education, behavioural science, animal behaviour, biology, psychology, etc.) would be an asset. However, a combination of relevant organizational experience and education will be considered.
- Certificate in dog training through independent certification programs, such as CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC, or other recognized certifications.
- Minimum of two years of experience in canine training, including professional experience related to Service Dogs, dog behaviour training and modification, and leading public dog training classes.
- Public speaking skills and demonstrated training expertise using LIMA and Positive Reinforcement techniques, including clicker/marker training.
- Proficiency in using PCs, the Internet, and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn new software.
- Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborating effectively as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- A passion and commitment to learners and learning.
- An open and inquisitive mindset.
- Experience instructing in the post-secondary sector.

Degrees conferred outside of Canada must be accredited by the Province of Alberta, International Qualification Assessment Service (IQAS), Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, to be valid and recognized by Medicine Hat College.
