The School of Health and Community Services at Medicine Hat College is seeking applications for the position of Program Coordinator for the new Pharmacy Technician program. This is a full-time, on-campus role set to begin on July 1, 2025. Upon successful completion of a two-year probationary period, the position will transition to a permanent appointment.
A little about the role:
We are seeking a highly dedicated and knowledgeable Coordinator to join our newly established Pharmacy Technician program. This individual will play a pivotal role in both teaching within the program and overseeing the program’s initial accreditation process with the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP). The Coordinator will be responsible for instructing theory and/or laboratory sessions as part of their teaching duties.
This position presents an exciting opportunity to help build a high-demand program tailored to the needs of our region. The successful candidate will not only contribute to the development of the curriculum but also mentor and guide students as they embark on a rewarding career in the fast-paced and respected field of pharmacy. As the Coordinator, you will oversee the implementation of the program curriculum, ensuring that both the theoretical and laboratory components meet accreditation standards, and you will be responsible for preparing the self-study required for accreditation.
As an instructor, you will be instrumental in providing students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the regulated pharmacy technician profession. This will involve facilitating student learning across multiple modalities, including online, in-class, and laboratory settings.
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in both hospital and community pharmacy settings, a strong passion for teaching, and the ability to create a dynamic and hands-on learning environment that ensures students are well-prepared for success in the field.

- Active and current licensure with the Alberta College of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist or Registered Pharmacy Technician.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, ensuring the maintenance of skills and competencies in practice settings, in compliance with the accreditation standards established by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).
- A Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience in both hospital and community pharmacy settings, with a proven track record in medication compounding.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching within a post-secondary educational environment.
- Consideration will be given to equivalent combinations of post-secondary education and relevant professional experience.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
