The School of Health and Community Services at Medicine Hat College is seeking applications for a full-time Instructor in the Child and Youth Care Counsellor diploma program. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching within the Interdisciplinary Studies curriculum. This appointment will commence on July 1, 2025. Following the successful completion of a two-year probationary period, the position will transition to a permanent appointment.
A little about the role:
The Child and Youth Care Counsellor program is designed to provide graduates with a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and the practical application of core competencies essential to effective practice across the Child and Youth Care continuum. Our mission is to offer students transformative learning experiences and meaningful professional development, while equipping them with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to support the diverse and often complex needs of children, youth, and families. The Interdisciplinary Studies component of the program offers students foundational knowledge and communication skills vital to success in the helping professions.
Faculty responsibilities include course preparation and instruction, practicum supervision, and active participation in ongoing curriculum and program development. Successful candidates will consistently demonstrate excellence in teaching practices that align with established Child and Youth Care competencies and theoretical models. We are seeking applicants who are passionate advocates for Child and Youth Care education and who will serve as strong professional representatives of this dynamic and evolving field.
Details:
- A Master’s degree in Child and Youth Care or related discipline preferred.
- A degree in Child and Youth Care required.
- 5 years minimum of direct Child and Youth Care practice. Leadership and/or supervisory positions previously held are an asset.
- Certification with the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta.
- Previous teaching experience in post-secondary is preferred.
- Previous experience with accreditation standards and/or processes is preferred.
