Student Services is seeking a dedicated and strategic leader for a full-time regular position for a Manager, Indigenous Engagement and Student Supports. This role will be based at the Medicine Hat campus with occasional travel to our Brooks campus.
A little about the role:
As Manager, Indigenous Engagement and Student Supports you will manage the design, implementation, and delivery of various Indigenous student supports and services initiatives and activities. This position will research and identify best practices that can be adapted to improve services and institutional Indigenous strategy at Medicine Hat College in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration with various departments will be key as you work to enhance recruitment, retention, and engagement of Indigenous students. You will also work closely with the academic schools and departments, examine systemic issues within the postsecondary context, and develop programs and services that address them.
This position will represent the college in external relations, building strong partnerships with Indigenous organizations and community stakeholders to ensure the college remains a welcoming and supportive environment for Indigenous students. You will also play a vital role in promoting the college’s strategic priorities, developing, and maintaining positive relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers. You will plan and mount indigenous educational and cultural events.
As part of your work, you will lead efforts to make Indigenous cultures and knowledges a visible and valued part of post-secondary life, governance, and decision-making at the college. You’ll also help drive initiatives to increase Indigenous student enrollment and contribute to securing funding to support these efforts. A significant aspect of your role will be ensuring that student services policies and procedures are clearly communicated across the college, aligning with the college’s commitment to providing inclusive education for all.
The successful candidate will bring a strong educational background, along with deep cultural knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities and perspectives, to effectively guide and support our Indigenous student initiatives.
Details:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field(s) OR an equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and work experience (a graduate degree would be considered an asset).
- A minimum of five years of related experience within post-secondary or another related industry is required.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Canadian Indigenous history and culture is a requirement.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse Indigenous communities and promote inclusion.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills.
- Experience working in a post-secondary environment, including experience with Indigenous learners and a strong understanding of the barriers and challenges faced.
- Valid driver's license.
Salary Range: $81,324 - $94,216 per annum
