Cancarb creates opportunities for new MHC students
Thanks to a generous donation from Cancarb Ltd., new Medicine Hat College (MHC) students are being given a break on their tuition. In a gathering at MHC on Sept. 15, president of Cancarb, Peter Donnelly, presented a $15,000 cheque to members of the college community, intended to be awarded to MHC students through bursaries over the next five years.
According to Donnelly, MHC graduates make up approximately 90% of their power engineering staff, while alumni from business administration and science programs are also hired throughout their organization.
“It is an honour and a great pleasure for us to be able to support Medicine Hat College as we count on them to have talented people ready to take on demanding roles at Cancarb,” says Donnelly, adding that he looks forward to continuing the relationship between the organizations.
Three of the fifteen awards, targeted to university studies: science, power engineering, and business administration programs, were distributed for the 2023/2024 academic year. The student recipients who applied for scholarships and bursaries in the spring were present at the event to meet with the representatives from Cancarb.
Nancy Brown, vice president academic at MHC, says she looks forward to seeing how learners will continue to benefit from the financial support from Cancarb, which will allow them to focus on their studies.
“Students are at the core of everything we do at Medicine Hat College. When students succeed, we all succeed, and we are excited to continue this partnership over the next five years.”
