With a rich academic journey, she achieved a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Chemistry, having Biochemistry as Minor. Her thirst for knowledge led her to pursue a Ph.D. with a focus on Organic Chemistry and Soil Science, while also attaining a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.). Prior to her tenure at Medicine Hat College, she honed her skills as an assistant professor, dedicating three years to a university and another year to a college.
Taking on the roles of a teacher, researcher, and someone who's always learning, she believes that education is the key to gaining wisdom and expertise, which helps both individuals and society. Her teaching style focuses on putting students first, encouraging their curiosity, helping them remember what they learn, and using what they learn in practical ways. She likes to create a classroom where everyone takes part and talks to each other, adjusting her methods to fit each student's needs. She uses discussions and hands-on activities to make learning exciting, and she makes sure everyone feels included. She has done a lot of research while getting her master’s and Ph.D., which has made her teaching even better. She's great at guiding students through experiments and using technology. Teaching chemistry makes her excited, and she's determined to make a positive difference.
New to MHC, Sumona is known by her students as a friendly, enthusiastic, and caring teacher. She's good at passing on knowledge and preparing students for the future. Besides her work, she's full of life, likes having interesting conversations, and always has a smile on her face. When she's not working, she enjoys camping, reading good books, and, of course, shopping.
