It is my belief that students should never shy away from work. You are here for
your education and should expect faculty to ensure you will be the best that you
can be, no matter where your academic path leads.
Teaching topics related to physical chemistry, including electrochemistry, kinetics,
thermodynamics, and chemical equilibria is my passion. If there are mathematics
involved, I love it! Over the years I have instructed many courses, including astronomy, biochemistry, mathematics, physics, electronics, and environmental chemistry.
My post-secondary studies started at Medicine Hat College. I have been here for parts of six decades(!) and I consider this institution my home. I believe that incorporating both old and new technologies makes my courses stronger; give me both blackboards and computers to educate my students!
My university research and publications involved the electrochemical and spectroscopic behaviours of metalloporphyrins. Since my arrival at MHC I have participated in numerous research projects with U of C, TRU, and local companies. I have served as a judge (and chief judge) for the Regional Science Fair, co-host of the 1998 College Chemistry Canada (C3) Conference at MHC, volunteer for the Environment Council of Alberta, post-secondary representative for the ATA Science Council, and been part of the executive teams for C3, Medicine Hat Astronomy Club, Medicine Hat Live Music Club, and MHC Faculty Association. I have presented a number of chemistry seminars, both nationally and internationally, and have delivered countless demonstrations for K-12 students in our region.
In 1994 I received the “MHC Academic Achievement Award” and the “C3 Award in
Chemical Education” in 2009. I was a contributor to the Third Canadian Edition of “Chemistry: A Molecular Approach” in 2019.
When not teaching I enjoy golfing, reading, and playing guitar.
