Chris Lukowski, Coordinator/Instructor
Education & Credentials:
- MSc - University of Alberta
- BSc - University of Alberta
Began teaching at MHC: 2016
Mr. Lukowski's enjoyment for teaching stems from observing students realizing they are capable of more than they thought; that "Aha moment". Chris' goal as a college instructor is to foster the development of critical thinking skills and to inspire an excitement for science. In the classroom, Mr. Lukowski makes use of Microsoft OneNote to deliver course material, demonstrating how lecture notes are an evolving document. Formidable assessments will help students appreciate the need to work through challenges.
A born and raised Edmontonian, Chris completed bachelor and master of science degrees at the University of Alberta, focusing on molecular biology and genetics. His research experience involves transgenic technology, biomarker detection in diseases of the gastrointestinal system, and protein function studies linked to corneal dystrophies. Chris brings these experiences to the classroom and lab, discussing various experimental procedures and what caveats to watch out for in order to be a successful scientist.
Chris is an avid photographer, combined with a passion for wildlife and nature, students can expect to see a variety of photographs to begin each class - don't be late! Cycling and golf are other hobbies Mr. Lukowski pursues. Chris gives back to the students by advising the Science & Engineering Undergraduate Society (SEUS) as well as writing reference letters for scholarships and professional schools such as medical school.
