Service Dogs Roles & Task Training

Service dogs are utilized to perform specific tasks to mitigate symptoms of a disability or disabilities for their clients. They are not a pet but viewed as a medical aid. This course will explore the roles a service dog can play in mitigating symptoms of various disabilities. Students will apply their knowledge of various training concepts to train various service dog tasks with reward-based methods. Students will continue training the service dogs in training in home manners, leash skills and public access as part of their lab classes and homework. Students will learn about the goals of public access training and perform assessments to track dogs' progress in training and readiness for
placement.
